Steven P Stoesz

Hamilton County Attorney

Steven P Stoesz is often asked why he became a lawyer. The truth is that he never really thought he would be anything else. His mother worked for lawyers when he was growing up, and he can remember falling asleep at night to the sound of her typing away at her typewriter. After he realized he wasn’t going to play college basketball at UCLA, he just assumed he would be a lawyer.

Steven grew up in Neenah, Wisconsin in a sports-focused family. He played baseball, football, volleyball, and basketball. His high school team went to the state finals in basketball his senior year where they lost in the semi-finals. He graduated and went to a small Christian college in St. Paul, Minnesota for a year before his parents asked if he would like to transfer to Anderson University (then College) where his younger sister was about to enroll. Steven took their advice and transferred. He graduated from Anderson University and then, again at his parents’ suggestion, delayed his entry into law school and enrolled in the new Ball State M.B.A. program. Two years into his M.B.A. program, he enrolled in IU McKinney Law School in Indianapolis. He received his law degree three years later and, a few months after that, he received his MBA from Ball State.

When he first became a lawyer, he had his own office and did some work for another attorney who just so happened to be the President of the Indiana Pacers and the President of Market Square Arena. He remembers proofreading the rookie contracts of Reggie Miller and Rik Smits. He sat in on the meetings, which resulted in the formation of the original Indianapolis Ice hockey franchise. He also did regular legal work for this gentleman while attempting to build his own practice. Steven’s brother, Tim, joined him a year later when they formed Stoesz & Stoesz, LLC.

They practiced in Indianapolis and, at one time, had a beautiful suite on the 19th floor of the Gold Building. Steven’s office overlooked the entire east side of Indianapolis. One day, his parents came to town and indicated that they had seen a lot in Westfield, Indiana that was for sale. They suggested that Steven and Tim buy the lot and construct their own office. They did and then moved to their newly constructed building in Hamilton County.

Twenty years later, their mortgage is paid off and their practice in Hamilton County continues to grow. Stoesz & Stoesz, LLC represents individuals, families, and small businesses across Noblesville, Carmel, and Hamilton County. Steven loves being a lawyer. He never thought it would be any other way.
